Amy O Choreography at CalArts and The Sweat Spot, LA

November 20, 2013

Amy O recently returned from a great run in California, teaching choreography at CalArts (California Institute of the Arts), and class at The Sweat Spot teaching for  Ryan Heffington.

The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts is one of the nation’s premiere colleges for the professional training of contemporary dance artists. Technical excellence and innovative artistry are its hallmarks, with concentrated production seasons of aesthetically diverse work that thrive in an atmosphere of creative exchange between professionally motivated students and a faculty of practicing artists. Personal creativity combined with mastery of traditional and contemporary styles prepare students for exciting careers in the field of dance. AmyO was delighted to be a guest choreographer at the college.

Ryan Heffington opened The Sweat Spot to offer the opportunity to dance in a warm and non-competitive environment. Heffington is a performer, choreographer, designer, promoter and dance guru. Since his arrival in Los Angeles in 1991, his exhaustive resume has expanded to include work that has been presented in national art galleries, on fashion show runways, professional dance stages, numerous TV shows and at some of the grittiest night clubs around the world. He has been described as both “a mad Bob Fosse with a sewing machine” and “Martha Graham on meth” by the Los Angeles Times, and as “a fucking genius” by Blackbook Magazine.
